The Student-Led Physiotherapy Service in February

The Student-Led Physiotherapy Service from the University of Salford continues to put the HEALTH into the Manchester Institute of Health and Performance.

“Dale, just to let you know your students did a fantastic job yesterday.

No pain going up or down stairs what so ever!”

The University of Salford is providing affordable Physiotherapy to the Manchester area.

With regards to exercise prescription this is no longer done by the Physio drawing a Stick Man.

We use an amazing piece of software called Rehab Guru.

This allows video/images that are easy to understand and available on any smart device.

That means there are NO EXCUSES for not doing your exercises!

We Are Back!

The Student-Led Physiotherapy Service from the University of Salford was back this week.

The clinic was packed as we returned from a well-earned Winter break.

Seven new students from the University of Salford undergraduate Physiotherapy programme started this additional placement yesterday.

There is a mix of students from both our Full-Time and Part-Time courses.

The students more advanced in their studies also act as Clinical Educators for the less experienced students.

The best way to learn is to teach.

The students are all volunteers who see the value in up-skilling themselves in a state-of-the-art clinic at the Manchester Institute of Health and Performance.

The University of Salford is honoured to put the “Health” into the Manchester Institute of Health and Performance.

Aine describes her experience at the MIHP

Aine’s feedback

"I had a brilliant experience volunteering at the MIHP."

During the six weeks my practical and communication skills improved no end, and I also I grew in confidence.

It was great being able to put the theory we learned in University into practice on real patients while also having a lecturer there to support us if we had any problems.

During the six weeks we were also learned how to use some very specialist equipment such as Compex which I might never have get the opportunity to use otherwise.

I would highly recommend the MIHP to any student looking to improve their skills and knowledge.

"I have learned new techniques and advanced handling including myo-fascial release.
We have been using Muscle Stimulation (Compex) combined with active muscle contraction to rehabilitate injured and weak muscle.
This experience has improved my communication and confidence with patients."

Physio Tutors Dale Walker and Ray Healy are responsible for helping the students run the clinic under the Clinical Director Dr Lee Herrington.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and learned a lot!”
